The songs have the melody written with sheet music notation, lyrics and chord diagrams for uke. If you see a zero (0) on the line, play the string open (with no fret pressed down). The top line represents the string furthest away from your head when you’re looking down while playing your ukulele. ![]() As you come to a number on one of the lines, you play that line’s string on the fret of the number. Tabs are particularly useful when you are trying to learn a string picking song. It’s a lot easier to read than sheet music so it’s quite easy to learn if you are just starting out playing the ukulele. When reading tabs you want to start from left to right. Ukulele tabs or tablature is another form of musical notation specifically made for stringed instruments. Tabs make it easier for new players to learn a piece by leaving out all the music theory and just trying to duplicate the visual aspect of playing of the instrument (like the 4 strings of the ukulele or the 6 strings of the guitar). When searching for music arrangements on the Internet you’ll often find them in tab (or tablature or tabulature) form. ![]()
